Legend of the Seeker Fans Take Aim at ABC Domestic Television

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 4:18 am

Craig Horner and Bridget Regan star in 'Legend of the Seeker'.The news just went out this week that ABC Domestic Television has decided to cancel the syndicated television show Legend of the Seeker. Mind you, there has not yet been any official announcement. Mike Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly Tweeted and blogged the news to his 1,000,000+ followers. A few hours later E! Online pronounced confirmation of Ausiello’s declaration.

Heartbroken fans scattered across the world Tweeted their anger and their hope that the rumor wasn’t true. Alas! Producer Mike Sussman and star Brigdet Regan posted their own confirmations. The Seeker is dead. Except for the fans, who were already organizing a massive online protest campaign to persuade ABC Domestic Television to keep the show in production.

By this time even SyFy had passed on picking up the show, which lost its main distributor (Tribune Station Group) earlier this year. Tribune, which seems to love squashing genre shows at every opportunity, announced it would not carry Legend of the Seeker next season. The Tribune announcement had already spawned a Save The Seeker online petition (over 5,000 people have signed it as of this writing). Now renewed interest has spurred more signups.

Very lengthy discussions ensued at a Seeker fan forum and now a dedicated Save The Seeker blog has been set up on Wordpress, carrying all the latest news about how people can join the campaign. Fans have even made it easy to email dozens of executives at ABC Studios, Television, Disney, and other companies.

The word is out: fans are targeting ABC and its associates for all the complaints and requests they can muster. Some Websites have already suggested that a boycott of ABC sponsors may be next. If sympathy won’t help bring the show back, the thinking goes, then maybe simple economics will: make it too expensive to NOT renew the show and maybe ABC will take action.

We have seen fan campaigns to save TV shows come and go but this one is becoming a page turner fast. What else will the resourceful fan base do to bring this show back?
